About the Opportunity:
Capsicum Culinary Studio is preparing to deliver internationally recognised STCW (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers) courses under the accreditation of the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA).
As part of our accreditation application, we are seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified and experienced trainers, facilitators and assessors to join our pool of maritime educators. Successful candidates will support the delivery of STCW-compliant safety and survival training once accreditation is secured.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver STCW-aligned training in one or more modules (e.g. Personal Survival Techniques, Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting, Advanced Fire Fighting, Medical First Aid, Proficiency in Survival Craft, Designated Security Duties).
- Facilitate both theoretical and practical sessions, ensuring alignment with STCW and SAMSA standards.
- Conduct fair, reliable learner assessments (written, oral, and practical).
- Maintain accurate learner records, assessment documentation and reports as per QMS requirements.
- Participate in moderation, audits, and quality assurance processes.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of course content and training methods.
Minimum Requirements:
- Recognised STCW certification or Certificate of Competency in the relevant subject area(s).
- Minimum of 3 years relevant sea service / operational experience (practical, shipboard, or maritime safety role).
- Proven experience in training or facilitation, ideally in maritime or technical environments.
- Competence in assessment practices (formal assessor qualification aligned to SAQA Unit Standard 115753 or equivalent advantageous).
- Strong English communication skills (verbal and written).
- Ability to work within structured Quality Management Systems (QMS) and meet audit requirements.
- Professional integrity, reliability, and strong references.
Preferred / Advantageous
- Formal qualification in education, training, or assessment (e.g. Facilitator/Assessor/Moderator certification).
- Prior experience with SAMSA-accredited training institutions.
- Cross-disciplinary capability to train multiple STCW modules.
- Simulator training / advanced safety training exposure.
